Master Level
What is the Master Level about? Does it make you an “expert” in the use of Reiki? Does it make you a perfect or a particularly “good” person? The answer is very clear: “No!” In our language, the word “master” is always used when you have become a “master of your trade” (e.g. master painter, master baker, etc.), i.e. you have completed training and acquired special skills in this field. And that is not what a Reiki master is about. When you become a Reiki master, it is what you have already experienced in Level 1. Only energetic blockages are “removed” so that the full flow is possible again. And at Master Level, it is the “ego” that is removed, because the ego is nothing more than a blockage. Although the ego is initially necessary for our life in the four-dimensional world in order to become an independent “personality”, from a certain stage of development the ego is no longer needed around the clock.
There is an illustrative picture of the so-called “four stages of human development”:
Stage 1: self & unconscious
We come into the world as “completely ourselves”, but are not aware of it. We are curious, open, spontaneous and completely in our own energy.
Stage 2: not self & not conscious
We develop into an independent personality. We have learned to set ourselves apart, to define preferences and values and to believe that the “I” is us. There is no doubt about this. I am me. That’s the way it is. Why should there be anything “different”? Most people remain at this stage of development. Nothing is questioned … the ego is set in stone, it is loved and defended at every opportunity …
Stage 3: not self & conscious
If the dissatisfaction in life has become unbearable, many people question their previous way of life. They then realize that they have been chasing after things that do not make them happy in the long term. This is the beginning of a spiritual journey, namely the journey to oneself.
Stage 4: self & conscious
We have basically arrived back at Stage 1, only “consciously”. By whatever means we have come back to ourselves. The ego (with all its thoughts) still exists (otherwise we could not survive in the four-dimensional world), but it has become what it ultimately is, namely a tool that can be put to good use. And you have realized that you “are” not the tool.
The following saying fits very well with this:
“We are not personalities that have a soul. We are souls that have a personality.”
The Master Level of the Reiki system according to Dr. Mikao Usui is one of countless ways to become completely “yourself” again, which means self; conscious, i.e. truly “self-aware”. The Master Level is the conclusion of the Reiki system (although there is of course also the Teacher Level, but there are no further “attunements” in the Teacher Level) and is also the beginning, namely of a “whole life” in flow …
But how can we imagine the difference between the “ego” and the “self” in the here & now?
It’s actually quite simple: the ego is an illusion that appears under certain circumstances. For example, when we hold an opinion, i.e. when we adopt a point of view. Or when we distance ourselves from something or someone. Or when we reduce things, evaluate or devalue them or when we interpret them with our mind. The ego also appears when we are tense. Or when we want something. Before the “want” there is always an “I”, as the ego. The ego is also constantly looking for explanations. But we are not all that. If we are completely ourselves, then there is no ego.
What exactly does this mean? You have probably fallen in love at least once in your life. Was it planned? Certainly not. Because true love always comes unannounced. The ego plans things. Some plans work, some don’t. But if things work by themselves, then there is definitely no ego involved. Just like falling in love.
Or another approach: you’ve probably said at some point in your life: “If it works, it really works …” Was the ego involved? Certainly not.
And you have certainly experienced the liberating moment after a tense situation, such as after an exam. When all the tension falls away and you are deeply relaxed and back in the flow without any thoughts.
These are all moments when we are completely ourselves and are no longer limited by the ego.
In the Master Level, these moments are not the exception, but become the rule …
